Know Your Library

The history of the Sripat Singh College library has a long and glorious. The College administration showed interest to development of the library from the outset. Asini Kumar Choudhury, the Principal, and Sri Bhabaniprasad Sen, the Assistant Librarian, laid the groundwork for the library. The College’s first full-time librarian was Sri Ranamitra Sen (04.05.1960). In 1961 the library was shifted in the old building, and Sri Sabitaprasad Dubey was the Librarian for a long time in the development period of the college. The open access and cataloguing system was started from the session 1974-1975.

There were just 148 text books in the library when it first opened. Just prior to the college receiving government sponsorship, there were just a Thousand books. When the library collection began to grow on 1971, there were 9866 books in it. The number of books in the library increased from 15384 in 1981 to 22578 in 1991. As of right now, the library includes more than 32,000 books, 24 wall maps, and more than 15 printed journals subscribed. The library was grown up mainly with the help of recurring grant of the state government and grant from UGC. At present the development of the library is solely dependent on our college fund. The Library also got the donation from the teachers, students and others for its development. Sri Sohanlal Dugar of Calcutta donated Rs 2000 in 1963 for purchasing books.
